Growing Minds, Happy Hearts

Alexis Clarke

Hi, I’m Alexis Clarke, the founder and heart behind Clarke’s Cubs.
My journey in childcare began in 2014, working in licensed childcare facilities where I discovered just how much I loved helping children learn, grow, and feel safe. Over the years, I’ve worked with kids of all ages and backgrounds, and my passion for creating nurturing spaces has only grown stronger.

In 2017, I married my husband, and together we’ve built a big, beautiful family of seven children; four of whom we adopted from foster care. Our own journey as foster and adoptive parents has given me a deep understanding of the importance of stability, compassion, and a sense of belonging in a child’s life.

Today, I wear a couple of hats! I’m the owner of Clarke’s Cubs, and a substitute teacher at Discovery Developmental Center. Each role keeps me connected to what I love most: making a difference in the lives of children and families.

Clarke’s Cubs was created with one simple mission: to be a safe, fun, and welcoming place where kids can learn, laugh, and make lifelong memories. From our afterschool program and summer camps to our indoor playspace, everything we do is built with both children and families in mind.

When I’m not planning new activities or rearranging our play area to make it even more magical, you’ll probably find me with my family, caring for our pets, or enjoying the outdoors.

For me, Clarke’s Cubs isn’t just a business, it’s a community, a family, and a dream come true.

Mia Owens

Hi! My name is Mia Owens. I’m 17 years old and about to start my senior year of high school. I’ve been working at Clarke’s Cubs for four years now, and it’s truly been one of the most meaningful parts of my life. I grew up going to a daycare myself, and I still remember how the teachers made me feel safe, happy, and cared for. Those memories have stuck with me and inspired the way I connect with the kids I work with today. I love being part of their little world, watching them grow, helping them learn, and creating moments filled with joy and laughter.

Working in childcare has taught me patience, empathy, and how powerful love and consistency can be in a child’s life. It has shaped me into someone who values kindness, responsibility, and being present for others.

Hi, my name is Ambria. I’m going into my senior year, and I’ve been working at Clarke’s Cubs since the summer before my freshman year. Having spent much of my own childhood in childcare, it feels incredibly full-circle to now be on the other side as a teacher. I used to look up to my teachers, and it’s also where I met some of my best friends as a child.

Being able to work here year-round has been such a joyful and rewarding experience. It’s given me the chance to build lasting relationships with the kids and truly be part of their growth. I’ve learned the value of patience, listening to every side, and teaching the importance of kindness and empathy. Every child is so unique, and it has been amazing to learn from them and grow alongside them.

Daycee Thompson

Hi! My name is Daycee, and I’m 19 years old with my high school diploma. I’ve been working at Clarke’s Cubs for almost a year now, where I serve as the lead drop-in teacher. I’m here at the childcare five days a week, and I truly love being a consistent, supportive presence for the kids and families I work with. In addition to my work here, I also volunteer with CASA, which has deepened my understanding of the importance of advocacy, stability, and care in a child’s life.

Childcare is something I care deeply about, and I strongly believe that a positive, safe, and nurturing environment plays a huge role in a child’s development. Every child deserves to feel seen, heard, and supported, especially during moments when they may not fully understand their own emotions. I’ve spent a lot of time doing personal research on trauma and how the adolescent brain responds to different experiences, and I use that knowledge every day in how I approach caregiving.

I take pride in helping children work through big feelings and challenging moments with patience, empathy, and understanding. Whether a child is overwhelmed, learning how to express themselves, or just needs extra support, my goal is always to meet them where they are and help guide them in a way that feels safe and reassuring. I believe that building trust and strong relationships is the foundation for helping children grow, learn, and thrive.

Kathryn Knudsen

I am a passionate and dedicated daycare provider with experience in working with children of all ages, from infants to 12 years old. At 25 years old, I bring a combination of personal experience as a mother to a toddler and my early years in childcare as a lifeguard and babysitter during high school.

In my role as a childcare provider, I focus on creating a nurturing and engaging environment for children through a mix of structured activities and free play. I believe in fostering both creativity and learning while allowing children to explore their natural curiosity in a safe and supportive setting. I am committed to maintaining a positive, clean, and organized space where children can thrive, learn, and build social skills through both guided and independent play.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I love going on walks or to the lake when the weather is nice, baking, and chasing my wild toddler around.

With my diverse background and hands-on experience, I strive to support children in a way that encourages them to develop their individual strengths and interests while ensuring they feel loved, cared for, and respected.

Hi 🤍 my name is Laycee. I believe childhood should feel slow, safe, and full of wonder. I love creating a calm, cozy environment where little ones can play, learn, and be themselves. I often bring music into our days, soft singing, playful rhythms, and sweet moments that make our time together feel extra special. I enjoy painting and spending time in nature as much as possible.
